I've had slowly progressing muscle weakness (and nothing sensory) for 2 years now. MS and similar things have been ruled out, and now I'm set for another EMG in a few days. The doc suspects MMN or perhaps another form of neuropathy, or even a motor neuron disease.
Anyway, he tested me for multiple gangliosides, and I got the results for that back yesterday. I am positive for GM1, as well as GD1A and GD1B (both of those are "strong positives," while the GM1 antibody is nearly at the "strong positive" cut off rather than just positive).
I realize that having these antibodies can point toward a possible diagnosis of MMN, especially the GM1? What does it mean to have multiple positive antibodies? Has anyone had similar test results?
I'm just anxious and hopeful to get off the frustrating and hellish diagnostic merry go-around. No other doctor has ever run this blood test on me before now!
